Ortaköy 80th Year Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School
Our vocational school is located on the way of Samsun-Kırıkkale, in a rural area of Ankara, and has the capacity to educate and train 1200 students. It also provides continuous vocational education to learners, who have no ability to obtain their diploma through regular daytime classes, because of their working life and status. Most of the students come from the underdeveloped area of the city, whose families have low-level income and educational background. A big proportion of our students' families are migrant population from the different parts of Turkey. We stand on the way between city life and the undeveloped part of Turkey. Among our the vocational fields we cover are: Electricity - Electronics Technologies; Wood Technologies; Machinery Technologies; Metal Technologies; Computer Technologies; Climate and Ventilation Technologies.
Our departments offer suitable opportunities for our migrant and low-income students to acquire skills and competencies in a profession that is needed by the business at local and national level. During the first year of the education of our students, we give guidance to them and their parents on how to choose the best career path in order to get more chance to lead an independent life. We truly believe we can contribute to fostering quality vocational education and training.
Contrary to the fast pace educational development seen in specific areas such as electronics, ICT and software design, Mechanical Engineering, Metalworking and Metallurgy fields do not get the same level of interest nowadays. However, it is not possible to think further innovations, without fostering the interrelation between High-tech Industries and Mechanical Engineering, Metalworking and Metallurgy. For instance, mechatronics and pneumatics are still new areas, which need to be fed by skilled in the 3M field workforce.
Our graduates are most often unprepared for the work they face in companies. This is due to the fact that the real work experience, machines used by large manufacturers, the equipment and the theoretical studies have a little in common. At this point, it is crucial to develop new/updated modules together with companies. Therefore, the 3MVET project would impact tremendously not only our school, but also the regional and national context in this field.
